what is pahari shabdkosh?
Pahari shabdkosh is an attempt to provide information online to learn the language of Uttaranchal region mainly kumaoni and Garhwali.

How this works?
Basically we ask from people like you to add a word or proverb or sentence. Once a word is added into shabdkosh, it becomes available for approval. For now a word needs approval from 7 different people. As soon a word gets enough approval it moves from the list. However one can search any word even if it is not approved or got enough vote. Also, if you think certain information is wrong for a word then you can edit or update that information.

Why this voting kind of approval?
Uttaranchali language doesn't based on any script, these languages are basically dialects from different scripted language. That's why often you will see or hear lots of hindi words when people talk these languages. And that's the reason we have selected this kind of approval to make sure to provide the correct information.

Can I contribute to this shabdkosh? If yes then how?
This shabdkosh needs contribution from all those uttaranchali who wants to give something back to their community. You can contribute in adding a word or adding uttaranchali proverb (kehavat) or you can also add some sentences to help people to learn the language or at least you can help in approving already added words. For all this simply goto contribution section of this website and follow the instructions.

How that Search actually works?
You can type a word in any language (hindi, english, kumaoni or garhwali), even you can type hindi, kumaoni or garhwali words in roman too and then click on search. If that word will be in shabdkosh you will see the result. You will notice to options in drop down normal and exact match. Exact match is self explainetry while normal match is basically a 'like' kind of look-up. That means if the word you are looking for is a part of another big word then both will be displayed as a result. For example, if you are searching for 'Other' and select normal as an option then you will get result for 'other' as well as for 'Brother' or 'Otherwise' etc. But if you select exact match then you will get results for 'Other' only.

Apart from that, there is another choice and that is 'Ye Dil Maange More' (Give me more), this is optional. If you select this then shabdkosh will also look uttaranchali proverb and sentences (learning lessions) for that word and if find the 'exact match' of that word then display those for you to understand that word better.
